Talking with Seth Lepore - Losing My Religion: Confessions of a New Age Refugee

During the build-up to the 2011 IndyFringe Festival, IndyFringeTalk interviewed some of the key performers to get some insight into their stories, their audience and the Fringe itself. Here is what happened when we sat down with Losing My Religion: Confessions of a New Age Refugee's Seth Lepore.

If you could present your show to just one person, who would it be and why?
Spaulding Gray. Spaulding was a Rhode Island native like me and so I feel a special kinship with his work. He changed how solo performance could be done and was an amazing storyteller. I would have been nervous as hell performing in front of him though.

List 3 words that truly sum up your show.
Hysterical, dead-on, insightful

What is the best way for theater-goers to stay informed about your latest productions?
www.sethums.com

How does fringe theater benefit you as a theater artist/performer?
Fringes give me the freedom to take major risks with my work and push the envelope with my characters.  Plus it's a non-competitive environment where you get to see things you wouldn't normally get to otherwise. Plus it's a wicked fun time.

What is the funniest line in your show?
"When you open your heart, the money just flows in."

Where do you see yourself in a year’s time?
Just finishing up a tour of my brand new show SuperHappyMelancholyexpialidocious. About to have a kid. Now that's going to change things.

Why IndyFringe?
I've heard great things about the IndyFringe from other performers so it was on the top of my list.

  1. This is a MUST-SEE show.
We rolled with laughter and also gained some insight. Good combination - especially when it's mostly the laughter...
