When I was in High School... - Taylor Martin, Andrea Merlyn's Book of Secrets: Volume II

1.  How did you become involved in the performing arts?

My father brought home the Chipmunk Song and I sang along with it.

2. What is the most interesting part you've ever played?

The murderous transvestite in The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. Why? I got to play four characters in the show.

3. What advice would you give to young people who are interested in getting involved in the performing arts?

a) Get a thick skin for all the rejection you're going to meet.
b) Remember, it's called "show business" and only one word is "show." You're in it for the money. It's how you'll feed and cloth and insure yourself and your family. Don't sell yourself for less than what you're worth.

4. How can teens become ambassadors for the performing arts during the school year?

Teens? What about us adults who need the job?

5. Where can teens find a community of other performing artists around the city?

The Society of Young Magicians (S.Y.M.), Footlite Musicals' Young Artists group, High School theatre groups.

Talking with Amy Pettinella and Larry Haworth: 'Flowers and Other F-Words', Twilight Productions

During the build-up to the 2011 IndyFringe Festival, IndyFringeTalk interviewed some of the key performers to get insight into their stories, their audience and the Fringe itself. Here is what happened when we sat down with Flowers and Other F-Words's Amy Pettinella and Larry Haworth.

If you could present your show to just one person, who would it be and why?
Jamie H: Larry’s childhood friend who was killed in Viet Nam at age 19, and for whom the vignette “The Wall” was based on.

List 3 words that truly sum up your show.
Men Love Largely

What is the best way for theater-goers to stay informed about your latest productions?
Twilight Productions is on Facebook. I think a lot of our fans think we are affiliated with the dumb vampire movies.

Where do you see yourself in a year’s time?
Performing another original play at IndyFringe and beyond.

Talking with A Wing and Prayer Productions - 'Tricks of the Trade'

During the build-up to the 2011 IndyFringe Festival, IndyFringeTalk interviewed some of the key performers to get insight into their stories, their audience and the Fringe itself. Here is what happened when we sat down with members of A Wing and a Prayer Productions' Tricks of the Trade.

If you could present your show to just one person, who would it be and why?
We would choose Bob Berry who wrote “Singles Bar” and has been teacher, mentor and supporter to each one of us in our acting/directing pursuits.  We also want the actor Bill Murray to see our show because we have been trying to meet him.

List 3 words that truly sum up your show.
Friends, Ruthless, Devoted

What is the best way for theater-goers to stay informed about your latest productions?
We can be contacted on Facebook under A Wing and A Prayer Productions.

How does the fringe theater benefit you as a theater artist/performer?
Being involved in IndyFringe gives us an excellent opportunity to get our work out and  have it seen by a wide variety of people. We are also able to present material that is not always done at the community theatre level. Being able to network with all of the various performers is an amazing opportunity.

What is the funniest line in your show?
“No, no you can’t fuck but, Eddie.”

Where do you see yourself in a year’s time?
We hope to be back at the Fringe and maybe have some original material to present. We are also looking at putting up a play at the Fringe building by local actor/playwright, Bob Berry.

Why IndyFringe?

It is one of the most exciting, unique events of the year here in Indianapolis. IndyFringe allows performers to not only reach a larger audience but to present edgier, more provocative material.

StarTribune Reviews 'Sousepaw: A Baseball Story'

Syndicated from StarTribune.com

First, get on Wikipedia and read up on left-hander Rube Waddell. He pitched like a demon from about 1900 to 1910. This heartbreaking play puts Waddell in a Texas hotel, on the eve of what he believes will be a comeback. He has asked the Reptile Girl from a local circus to come visit him. These two bereft souls express an epic, if tragically doomed, hope for better things. James B. Kennedy and Ariana Venturi are outstanding, with a palpable chemistry. Jonathan Goldberg's script is a small jewel. I would see it again and again. More show information.

Talking with John Hefner - The Road to Nowhere

During the build-up to the 2011 IndyFringe Festival, IndyFringeTalk interviewed some of the key performers to get some insight into their stories, their audience and the Fringe itself. Here is what happened when we sat down with The Road to Nowhere's John Hefner.

If you could present your show to just one person, who would it be and why?
Probably Kevin McDonald from "The Kids in the Hall." I think he'd get it.

List 3 words that truly sum up your show.
My Show Is...  aw nuts, ran out of words.

What is the best way for theater-goers to stay informed about your latest productions?
My official website of officiality, www.johnhefner.com! Short of that, ambush me in the steet. I'm the guy in the bowler derby.

How does fringe theater benefit you as a theater artist/performer?
It fulfills my standard monthly ego inflation while providing money for gas and food. For an artist, that's win-win!

What is the funniest line in your show?
Something that's not at all funny out of context. No, really. Here: "Did you find Dad? There he is." Hey, I warned you!

Where do you see yourself in a year’s time?
Hopefully sleeping, because that ain't happening now. Oh, the joys of Fringing while caring for a newborn infant!

Why IndyFringe?
Because it's one of the very best Fringes I've attended. The quality of shows are not only top-notch, but the audiences are the warmest, most receptive, most gosh-darn FUN crowds in the world.
